Bassem Diaa ist ein autodidaktischer Künstler, Oud-Spieler, elektronischer Musiker und Komponist aus Alexandria. In seiner Arbeit vermischt er ägyptische Volkstraditionen mit psychedelischen Klanglandschaften und verbindet traditionelle und elektronische Elemente durch Improvisation und Experimentieren. Er ist Mitbegründer von Ein L Aql zusammen mit Amro Zidan und arbeitet an verschiedenen Projekten mit, unter anderem mit den deutschen Musikern Jens Loh und Laura Kipp. Außerdem leitet er Workshops zum Thema Kulturaustausch durch Musik, wie z. B. غنيلى شوية, das vom UNHCR unterstützt wird. Bassem arbeitet derzeit an seinem ersten Solo-Album Smaller Than a Grain of Sugar, das Selbstreflexion durch Oud, Elektronik und Improvisation erforscht.

„Smaller Than a Grain of Sugar – أصغر من حبة السكر “
Bassem Diaa’s experimentales Solo Album erforscht die Tiefen der Selbstreflexion und konzentriert sich auf die emotionale Interaktion zwischen dem Individuum und sowohl persönlichen als auch globalen Ereignissen. Dieses zutiefst persönliche und doch universell wirkende Werk beschäftigt sich damit, wie Menschen inmitten des äußeren Chaos inneren Aufruhr verarbeiten und Emotionen wie Bewusstsein, Konflikt, Depression, Hoffnung und Akzeptanz steuern.
Das Album führt den Hörer durch eine fließende Reise, die im gegenwärtigen Moment beginnt und zwischen vergangenen Erfahrungen und gegenwärtigen Reflexionen wechselt. Es ruft vertraute Emotionen hervor und ermutigt gleichzeitig zur Selbstbeobachtung und emotionalen Auflösung, und das alles in einer experimentellen Klanglandschaft, die traditionelle Grenzen sprengt.
Durch diese reflektierende Reise möchte das Album eine tiefe Verbindung zu persönlichen und kollektiven menschlichen Erfahrungen herstellen und einen Raum für Selbstbeobachtung, Wachstum und Akzeptanz bieten.

Bassem Diaa’s solo experimental album explores the depths of self-reflection, focusing on the emotional interaction between the individual and both personal and global events. This deeply personal yet universally resonant work contemplates how humans process inner turmoil amidst external chaos, navigating emotions such as awareness, conflict, depression, hope, and acceptance. The album guides listeners through a fluid journey, starting in the present moment and transitioning between past experiences and present reflections. It evokes familiar emotions while encouraging introspection and emotional resolution, all within an experimental soundscape that breaks traditional boundaries.
Through this reflective journey, the album aims to connect deeply with both personal and collective human experiences, offering a space for introspection, growth, and acceptance.
SafiLab is a monthly concert and jam session series aimed at promoting mindful listening and strengthening the music scene, with a special focus on Arabic instruments and sounds. Held on the last Friday of every month, these events invite participants to explore the rich connections between Arabic music and global sounds.Through live performances and interactive jam sessions, SafiLab creates a unique atmosphere where artists and audiences can forge deeper connections, offering a transformative musical experience. Join this temporary community that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and cultural appreciation. Here, you can meet musicians and music lovers, expand your network, and immerse yourself in the magic of music.
