SafiLab’s Ancient Sound Series closes its season on June 11th 2026 at Theater Expedition Metropolis, Berlin, with a special concert and open jam session bringing together oud player, composer and Improvisor Ali Eissa and violinist and composer Andrew Nasser.
The evening will present a musical encounter between two distinct compositional languages and artistic approaches, shaped through more than a year of ongoing collaboration, listening, and shared musical exploration. Andrew Nasser, known for his own compositional vision and unique approach to melody and improvisation, joins Ali Eissa ’s music in a live dialogue through resonance, spontaneity, and mutual harmony.
Aly Eissa began his musical journey as a self-taught musician before studying under the renowned violin master Abdo Dagher and distinguished oud player Hazem Shaheen. His compositions reflect a wide spectrum of influences rooted in Egyptian classical and folkloric traditions while remaining open to diverse musical directions. His music creates a spiritual atmosphere, where contemplation and playfulness coexist throughout the journey of listening.
The concert will continue into an open jam session, and we warmly invite all musicians who participated in the Ancient Sound Series throughout the season, alongside musicians and friends in Berlin, to join us in celebrating the beginning of summer and the changing spirit music carries within this season.
An evening of compositions, improvisation, exchange, and collective sound.

Über SafiLab „Ancient Sound“:
„Ancient Sound“ lässt sich davon inspirieren, wie Musik in alten Kulturen erlebt wurde – als Ritual, Erzählung, Heilung und gemeinschaftliches Zusammenkommen. Durch die heutige Neuinterpretation dieser Praktiken schafft die Reihe einen langsamen, bewussten Raum für Klang: einen Ort, an dem Musiker:innen und Publikum jenseits des Formats eines traditionellen Konzerts aufeinandertreffen.
Jede Session basiert auf drei Elementen:
Konzertperformance – kurze Sets (40–60 Minuten), in denen eingeladene Musiker:innen ihre eigene Herangehensweise an den „Ancient Sound“ vorstellen, sei es durch modale Improvisation, rituelle Perkussion, rekonstruierte Stücke oder zeitgenössische Interpretationen.
Achtsames Hören – angeleitete Übungen und Momente tiefer Stille, um Ohren und Körper auf ein aufmerksameres Erleben vorzubereiten.
Offene Jam-Session – eine kollektive Improvisation, bei der Musiker und Publikum gemeinsam Klanglandschaften erschaffen, oft geleitet von einfachen Gesten (inspiriert von antiker Cheironomie/Dirigierkunst).
